My paper animation set-up

22/02/19: Here is my current paper animation/drawing set-up! I'm quite proud of that table. I built it with my dad (he built it...) and it was such a fun project. Also important, an unsponsored McDonald's iced coffee, say what you will but that's a must-have for me.

I have pillows on the chair because the table is too high for me to reach the animation desk.

Here is the drawing in the photo; highly edited because I wanted powerful contrast:

The BirdKnight

22/02/17: I had people vote on some thumbnails; which drawing I should develop. This is the result!

Sometimes, I am a perfectionist. It can feel so important to reach for a perfect result, but it really isn't. If you've given it your best, and you've followed your gut, even at the risk of "failing", that's as good as it needs to be.

Greyjoy Design Sketch

A sketch I made a few months ago as I was starting a new personal project. Here is what I had done for the storyboard.

Even though I didn't end up taking this too far, it proved to be the exact exercise I needed. I love animating, but I look forward to exploring more storyboarding in the future.

Before I started the storyboard, I started with thumbnails. I explored compositions, story ideas, and possible camera movements.

My way of learning any skill lies a lot in deconstruction. I like to test different extremes until I reach a balance that makes sense to me. For example, here I tried to prepare very rigidly. Whereas, for my next storyboard exercise, I will attempt to be very loose in my approach. This gives me a much better idea of what works and what doesn't.

01/31/22: I'm taking a break from work right now. Since I'm between contracts, I'm having fun letting loose on some personal drawings and playing with color. Having not really done this in a couple of years, I'm realizing how much I missed doing this and I'm really enjoying this exploration.

Arcane: Jinx and Silco

01/30/22: I'm a bit late for this one. Watched Arcane as it was being released and I LOVED it. For me, it sets an example of what animation should be trying to do. P.S. I listened to the soundtrack as I made this.
